Am I Burnt Out or Is It Perimenopause? (What I Learned in My Late 30s)
Apr 07, 2026Have You Been Feeling “Off” Lately?
Like you’re exhausted, dealing with brain fog, low motivation… and wondering what’s actually going on?
Maybe you’ve even thought:
“Is this burnout? Hormones? Am I just stressed?”
You’re not alone. And more importantly—you’re not broken.
Burnout vs Perimenopause: Why It’s So Confusing
One of the biggest struggles women face in their late 30s and 40s is figuring out whether their symptoms are from burnout, depression, or perimenopause.
The problem?
They all share similar symptoms:
- Fatigue
- Brain fog
- Mood changes
- Low motivation
- Sleep disruptions
- Weight changes
It’s no wonder so many women feel stuck and unsure of what to do next.
My Story: When Burnout Wasn’t the Full Answer
For a long time, I thought I was burnt out.
I changed everything I was “supposed” to:
- Reduced my workload
- Adjusted my workouts
- Focused on recovery
And it helped… temporarily.
But I still didn’t feel like myself.
I even went to therapy (multiple times), and while it helped in many ways, I was told something that surprised me:
👉 I wasn’t depressed.
So if it wasn’t burnout… and it wasn’t depression…
what was it?
The Missing Piece: Early Perimenopause Symptoms
After years of tracking my symptoms and doing my own research, I started to suspect something else:
👉 Perimenopause.
There’s growing research showing that some women—especially those who haven’t had children—may experience perimenopause symptoms earlier.
A 2018 study found that women who have never given birth are twice as likely to experience early menopause compared to those who have.
That was my turning point.
Common Early Perimenopause Symptoms (That Often Get Missed)
Many women don’t realize they’re in perimenopause because their cycle may still look “normal.”
Here are some signs to look for:
- Increased symptoms before your period (PMS intensifies)
- Brain fog and memory issues
- Constant fatigue
- Mood swings or anxiety
- Weight gain or body composition changes
- Poor recovery from workouts
- Sleep disturbances
If this sounds familiar, your body might be going through hormonal changes—even if your labs don’t clearly show it yet.
Why “Doing Everything Right” Stops Working
One of the most frustrating parts of perimenopause is this:
You can be:
- Eating well
- Exercising consistently
- Doing all the “right” things
…and still feel stuck.
That’s because your body is responding differently now.
👉 What worked before may not work the same way anymore.
What I’m Doing Next (And What You Can Do Too)
I decided it was time to stop guessing and start getting answers.
I booked an appointment with a nurse practitioner and I’m bringing:
- 3 years of symptom tracking
- Questions about hormones, fatigue, and brain fog
- Requests for deeper testing (thyroid, iron, glucose, etc.)
- A conversation about whether HRT is right for me
👉 This is your reminder: advocate for yourself.
The Foundations Still Matter (More Than Ever)
Even with medical support, one thing doesn’t change:
Your daily habits are your foundation.
- Nutrition (especially protein intake)
- Strength training
- Sleep
- Stress management
HRT can support your body—but it doesn’t replace these.
You need both for the best results.
Where Most Women Get Stuck
The problem isn’t lack of effort.
It’s lack of:
- Clarity
- Direction
- Understanding of what your body actually needs right now
A Simple Starting Point
That’s exactly why I created my Perimenopause Results Guide.
Because most women don’t need more information—
they need a clear, actionable plan.
Inside, you’ll learn:
- How to track your symptoms properly
- How to eat to support your body (including protein)
- How to exercise without burning out
- What to focus on first for real results

Final Thoughts
If you’ve been feeling “off”…
It’s not in your head.
And it’s not because you’re failing.
Your body is changing.
And once you understand how to support it, everything starts to shift.
I’ll be sharing more after my appointment—but until then:
👉 You deserve answers
👉 You deserve support
👉 And you deserve to feel like yourself again 🤍
